Spec Mods gets Over 10000 views! Thanks to all the people that visit the site and follow the great racers of the Spec Mods!  This weekends feature race was a great one. Dave finishes 3 and lead the most laps in only his 3 feature race. The Franchise clan are all born racers!
Bill update may 14 Still making trips to doctors, but he is making progress. Lori is a great and amazing person.

Trade`in paint with the 428! The 44 And 119 make the crowd go wild!

The gates opened as Sam and Terry worked the surface of one of the most beloved dirt tracks in the south. Racers laid down rubber from all classes and the specmods brought in the top grove in practice. The stage was set! Obe one Dave in the black x wing fighter brings them to green. Points leaders, yes that is leaders with an S.  Five races into the season and its a dead tie between Franchise Earl Maxham and team 428. With every spot on the line to matter. That fast old man from plant city was back to win again. Bringing Chris Butler to tune his 22 and Ben Hodges 72. Chris the man that makes it happen for the plant city group was intent on putting his cars out front.  None of this ever crossed Obe one Daves mind as when the green came out he was on the gas!  As the first 4 laps insue the racers went 3 wide in the pack as the 428 split two cars and did not clear the front bumper of the 72. Cars went sliding as the two touched and 428 lost control and slide around.  The 428 un hurt wiped it around and they lined them up again. Dave takes them to green again, the 119 Earl The Franchise works the bumper of his own car as Dave his cousin shows him the fast way around the famed speedway. The 428 on the move once again waiting to strike. As Earl moved high the 428 filled the lowest possible spot, Side bars clanked as they pushed and shoved for the spot.  Earl tucked close. As it was nose to tail for the first 3 cars. Obe one Dave  started to push in the center of the corner and the 428 drove it in deep. No racer gave as they fought hard. Just as the 428 made the pass. Out comes the yellow, Dave retakes the spot and we restart. Dave gets a good jump and the 428 and 119 real him back! Out of 2 the 428 has a run. They run hard into 3 and the 428 takes the lead as cars bring out the yellow. Dave gets the spot back. With time running out. They lined up and restarted. The 44 428 119, it goes green and the 428 drops low out of two and gets a run as they battle. The 428 makes it stick. As the 428 tries to run from the 119  who has been there waiting for any mistake, knowing that is all he needs. The two racer run  nose to tail as the checkers fall! 428 119 44 24 05 22 72. The specmods and team 428 wishes Chris Bulter the very best with his fight with cancer. He a is a great person and my prayers are for him. We all have people cancer has touched. We all fight to win!

Carrol Shelby gets promotion, The famed racer with a heart of gold for kids and racing gets new job. While here on earth he was the embodiment of the love of racing. As a boy i loved the cars of his fame. As my dad was just a working man but had the good fortune in 1972 of owning  one of Carrols cars . A shinny black 428 gt500. Nothing was faster , nothing was cooler, and behind the wheel my father could not be beaten. As in life he had his disagreements with the brass at Ford. In the end came back home to the racers and mustang owners that think so much of him today. He was active in racing and going fast with the fastest Shelby gt500 ever released this year. His love of cars, his love  of people enjoying them was a passion in his life. He brought the love of mustangs and racing to millions. By living his dreams he inspired millions of others to do the same.  LIVE  LIFE! DO NOT JUST BE A BY STANDER! You will be missed Mr Shellby.

The Hit Man Josh Jones encountered some care trouble this weekend and went to the back up plan. Josh turned in a good finish and will soon be on the winners box. His Dad is also making bumpers and panels. If you like the new wrap, stop by and cheer on this young racer. I look forward to watching him become a regular winner in the spec mod class. James also does the best art work and shirt ideas for your team. Stop by and see them. Jones Boys racing. THE Official Shirt MAKER FOR TEAM 428!

The Hitt Man Gets some new colors! Josh Jones new Ride! Jones Boys Racing would like to thank a new person. New Balance shoes!
If you don't like racing this close and this hard maybe you should think about joining tennis!                Larry Krause

Larry The Philosopher Krause wins at A.M.R.A 11.50 e.t class at the nationals at Baton Rouge.

Larry as quick in whit and humor as he is on the tree. In Drag racing the leaving of the starting line is often the difference between going home and going to the next round. In the ranks of et racing , races are often won and lost by the thousands of a second.  Larry can be seen Often tuning the THe Ice Mans number 33 to the same level of perfection. Here`s to Larry Getting it done on the straight line or on the dirt tracks of the South Florida!  Spec Mods Recognizes true competitive nature of racers of all types!

This weekends gas brought to you by PaPa Big Block!  Team 428 thanks Dad. Team 428 also Thanks  Terry Wynter Auto!

POP`s on the pit box makes the BiG BlOCK 428  SHAKE, RATTLE, AND ROLL !!!!

The line up was set as the two high points racers at Dirt Devils filled the back two rows. New comer to the series Chuck Fredricks started the race with Obe One Dave driving the black x wing fighter normally driver by Earl the Franchise Maxham. Dave took that ride as a on track broken radius rod side lined his regular ride. Renumbering the car with 44. The two racers did a great job bringing the felid to green. Chuck took the early lead in the team plant city car 72. Now Ben Hodge running the white car number 122. The racing was close as season racers Franchise and Big block Ford moved up thru the pack. Racers ran hard and clean as the opening laps gave way to the crossed flags. The Franchise was back in the orange and black 119 and seemed to be ready to win again. The flag man gave the 5 to go and 428 closed to just a couple of feet. Into turn 3 the 44 of Obe one lost traction and started sliding as the 119 made the center of 3. In a spilt second the 119 went high the 428 low. Just a stroke of chance and that was all the 428 needed. The checkers fell and clock ran out on what was a great race. Two racers right to the wire. The 72 with his second race was doing great finishing thrid as Hot Rod Herold  got freight trained and worked his way back to fourth place.  The Mayor of plant City Ben Hodge finished fifth and Obe one Dave is getting better by the race. Was a great weekend for the Spec Mods as we were treated to a mud in at the famed Dirt Devils. This was a first for many of the new racers and a treat for us older ones. It is hard to to tell who enjoyed it most. As we went full sides thru the turns sending mud over the fence. THe spec mods thanks dirt devils speedway for a great track. This surface was at its best, the go kart racers used the rubber laid down by the spec mods and put on a great show too!  GREAT NIGHT RACERS OF SPEC MODS ! Truly THE BEST CLASS ON DIRT!

Heat winners 4-14

The Legend makes  History Again. The first racer out of the Florida Spec Mods series to move up to the big cars that our class is fashioned after. Here the Legend is hard on the gas at New Egypt Speedway.. Go Mark Clauss Go!!!!!! ard

Who watched Martinsville, Last laps caution out. Why is that  lap car not moving off the track. Then the big finish , Car 15 gets a great start and the 24 does not. Its the last lap! you got to go Right! The 48 wonders why the 15 made that move. What the 48 did not know is the 39 had a run and shoved the 15 out there. Its go or get ran over time.  What`s my point! ahhh. The car that  caused the caution was just tring to get a few extra owner points when the car just shut off.  He had no intention of the things that followed. The 15 just saw a open spot and a chance to win a race. Out of this we get a new winner. WOW what a finish!!!  Just like a spec mod race! Its a race and everyone is just tring there best! That is why the fans love watching our class!  See you at the Races! Can`t Wait to see who the next big winner will be.

Irish Eyes are smiling on THE FRANCHISE Earl Maxham

Heat race one Levi takes the green and leads all ten laps. Heat  two was taken to green by Dave as the 428 got the jump and moved to first. After the heats shook out It was all Earl, He got a good start and into 1 he went. As the two Irish Men brawled it out like two brothers over the last piece of shepherds pie. These two racers stayed close and closer, As Robert The POLAR EXPRESS GIOIA Filmed from his go pro.The two racers raced nose to tail until a tire was moved into the race grove. FOR THE ONLY YELLOW. Then back to green as the 428 mounted one last charge . As he pulled out out of turn 4 ,Too little too late. The racing in the back was just as good. Fans commented to me after, just how close lap after lap. Thanks to all the people that came over to comment about our great class. As people pass they told me what a great race the feature was. The in car will be at spec mods on you tube. Talking to Dave about his first race in a spec mod, Dave says he is hooked. Our cars are as fun to drive as the are challenging. WINNERS WIN! THAT`S WHAT THEY DO!!!!!

This driver is no stranger to winning, His name is The Vermont Flash, Robert Gioia !  He drives his Open Wheel Modified car or maybe his pro 4 car. His talents are well known up in Franchises part of the country. He has raced go karts  as well. So with his first time at dirt devils speedway was a walk in the park. He started at the poll being the  guy with no points. I knew that he had skills just the way he moved around the car. No stranger to the wrench, he adjusted the old Falcon, car 119 to a perfect set up. Also having a great night was the Hot Rod Herold who ran 3 till he made his chance and took the spot from Ben in the 72. This gave Ben a great finish also, 3 in only a half dozen starts. Ben is learning fast and using good judgment and the low line to bring home this good finish. The night was as always exciting as old rivals battled it out. Was a great night for the Mods, new winners hard core racing! LIKE LARRY SAYS IF YOU Don't LIKE RACING THIS CLOSE TAKE UP TENNIS!!!!!!!WE RACE IN THE SPECMODS WHEEL TO WHEEL BUMPER TO BUMPER! The Bull Ring feature winning Franchise

The Franchise steels the win from the out side front row. As The Big Block Ford brings them to green. He has nothing for the 119 of Earl Franchise. The start was two by two as they crossed the line. Earl found better traction on the outside as he motored past Fords 428. Then that was all he needed as his lap times showed the way, the 119 was a tenth or two better per lap. As Franchise Skywalker piloted has machine with the skill he learned as one of the best north east racers in this sport of modified racing. On dirt or asphalt, he is the wheel man. As the other racers gave chase, racing in the next 3 cars was close. As the Hurricane Hammond moved to the inside with two to go. The 428 grabber another gear and held on to a very close second. Levi The Hurricane, is proving more and more he is also a contender to deal with. Levi has become a very smart and Dependable front runner with the car provided by Team Hammond. My hats off to the father and sons team Rosa. They worked at a fever pitch to repair there hot rod as engine trouble after second practice. They did not win, But unknown to them or me at the time. On lap 18 they set a new track record at 16.773 mph 53.658 the top two finisher bested times of only 16.982 with the best mph to the 428 at 53.168 over a 53.167. This team is about to catch fire also. Team Rosa is Headed by there father Jack ,The best chassis guy in spec modified racing, Steve Rosa and Driving is Fabulous Phil. As they crossed the line 119 Earl the Franchise TEAM 428  115 The Hurricane Hammond  33 The Ice Man Anthony Stewart  4 Fab Phil  24 Hot Rod Herold . Many thanks to my fellow Racer as this is the last feature write up as fla slingshots. The future is very bright for us as we move to the best class on dirt new home. Specmods.com. Read as I high light the great happenings of the best 1/4 scale modified racers in florida. It all happens at http://www.specmods.com/
THE FIRST HEAT WIN   HOT  ROD TAMES THE BULL RING

WARNING! WARNING! HURRICANE ALERT!

Levi the Hurricane Hammond blows into Tampa and wins his first Feature race in a slingshot chassis.  The conditions where right and a cold front moved in. Young Levi Hammond took full advantage of the surface of the track to put his machine in  first for all 20 laps. The high points leaders of 2012 all shared the back rows as The hurricane brings them to green. The "Old Man" Roy Bryan from plant city was hot in second, driving the newly repainted 5x. Now wearing in hunters orange number 22. This did not fool his long time racer friends. As we all know Roy always has a trick up his sleeve. As the race reached half way, the racing was hot and heavy as the "Ice Man" Anthony Stewart, "Franchise" Earl Maxham and the 428 of Jason Ford battled it out. Nose to tail 1 and second back several cars was ,third, fourth and fifth nose to tail.  As racing so close just touching at times, the drivers wheeled there machines. Pop ! There went the tire on the 22! The 428 ran wide allowing the 33 to get by giving the 119 a break from the fray. Just for a moment as the Ice man Pulled up. Then he ran wide as the 428 ran deep into the corner to take that spot back. Mean while Levi driving his new colors for 2012, and new number found victory lane. As the director of the series Levi was my pick for last years Up and coming star. With his many years of midget car, champ cart he is a natural for a feature win. Persistence and good car maintenance from  his dad and a helping hand from Steve Rosa a good Chassis is all this great driver needed. The cast of 2012 point leaders found there way to the front  finishing just behind him. This was a great night of racing . The racers showed how door to door and bumper to bumper racing is done in our class.  Very proud of the guys!
